Annette McNelis

Annette McNelis lives in Co. Donegal,  with her husband Ciaran and a cat called Wanda. They have three grown-up children and one grandchild.

Drawing on over 20 years’ experience working as a creative music educator, Annette develops music resources for primary schools and delivers training workshops for teachers for the Donegal Education Centre. She is also a keyboard tutor with the Donegal Music Education Partnership.

Since the launch of the Environment the Musical resource pack in 2014, Annette has delivered her unique environmentally-themed music workshops for County Councils, in schools in Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Roscommon, Leitrim, Monaghan, South Dublin and Donegal.

Several County Councils are now using Annette’s Dog Pooh song in their anti-dog fouling public awareness campaigns on radio and in cinemas. Dog Pooh is one of the popular songs from Environment the Musical.

What inspired  Environment the Musical?

Through her work and from personal experience, Annette firmly believes in the effectiveness of using music as a means for educating, inspiring and motivating people.

She also believes in the positive benefits of educating children through enjoyable and creative hands-on projects. Alongside teaching new skills, such projects can help to greatly enhance the learning experience. They can also help children gain a better understanding of their own individual gifts and strengths.

Having already written environmentally-themed songs, Annette believed that an environmentally themed musical would be the ideal project to benefit both children and the environment.  Thus Environment the Musical was created and the educational resource pack developed. Providing 8 fun and easy-to-learn songs for the classroom, together with material for school concerts, short plays and, of course, a full musical production, Environment the Musical helps to spreads the message of the importance of personal responsibility for caring for the environment.
