Teacher feedback
Veronica Ward, Principal, Monkstown Park Junior School:
The boys really enjoyed performing the musical, and to the present day I still hear them singing the songs as they go around the school. The musical was so accessible to all the boys.
Liam O’Sullivan, Deputy Principal of Ardfinnan National School:
Now that we are post-Christmas concert, I can send you some feedback about the wonderful experience we had with ‘Environment The Musical’- with the script, songs and overall concepts! The kids really loved every aspect of it from learning the songs, making up extra movements, producing props (lots of fun making the mastik dog poos!) and the highlight of course- performing. Thank you for producing this brilliant resource. I took the liberty of spreading the word to numerous fellow teachers and will be informing the Environment officers of Tipp County Council of the play’s existence and value to schools.
I have 2 autistic children in my 6th class and they engaged completely with the themes and especially with the songs and the dances/actions we came up with. Not all plays would allow/encourage this.
I mentioned not being a singer myself… it did not limit the possibilities in any way and that’s a sure sign of the play’s accessibility.
Sinead McLaughlin, Principal, Scoil Íosagáin:
It was one of the most beneficial projects we have ever been involved in.
Dean Eaton, Acting Environmental Awareness Officer, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council:
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and its primary schools have been the proud beneficiaries of a large number of Annette’s wonderful musical education packs. We’re in the process of organising our 3rd and 4th set of shows to be performed by local schools who are lucky enough to present their work to capacity audiences at the Lexicon Theatre! We’ve even had schools feature on the RTE News2day programme which was a massive thrill for our budding stars and eco warriors.
Regina McHugh, Principal, St. Egney’s NS:
Our younger pupils were fascinated by the show, and teachers used this as a springboard to introduce discussion and activities in the other classes, based on such topics as littering, recycling and taking responsibility for care of our environment.
Margaret Farren, Principal, St. Oran’s NS:
3rd and 4th classes participated for the first time in a joint endeavour. Friendships were forged and this had a huge impact on the self-esteem of the children throughout the school… Teachers noted an increase in participation in class… The themes covered tied in with a former green schools application and this revisited in a multi-sensory manner the themes of litter and waste…
Grace McCarron, 4th class teacher, St. Oran’s NS:
The effects of this innovative approach have had many positive long lasting effects… Above all my entire class agreed in June that the best moment of the year was the musical, they were so proud of themselves.
